“What should we wear for our portrait session?”
This is a frequent question I get asked, so I thought I would do a quick blog post to help get the best photographs.
Engagement shoots don’t have to be hard to prepare for. Yes, you want to look your best; yes, you want to be yourselves; and yes, you want photos that truly reflect you as a couple. However, there are a few tips that I can give you that will hopefully lead you in the right direction.
Engagement Photography Tips – What to Wear
1. It doesn’t have to match!
The days of matching jumpers etc., are behind us. Different colours, shades and patterns will add interest to your photographs.
2. Colour Scheme.
If you plan to have framed prints or a canvas up on your wall, then how about pulling colours from the room so that it coordinates
3. Going Neutral.
If you are looking for something light and airy, you can’t go wrong with soft blues, beige, and white.
4. Time to Rummage.
Once you have decided on the colour scheme, it’s time to go through your wardrobe and take out all the suitable clothing items.
5. Who goes first?
I recommend the female choose her outfit first and then the guy’s. If the female is happy with how she looks, both will be happy 😉
6. Mixing it Up.
Add textures and patterns and also layer your look to add personality. You could add hat scarfs, jackets, jewellery, and anything else you think is “you.”
With all my lifestyle portrait and engagement sessions, I will also provide tips on simple props to bring along to make your photographs unique.
