The Barn Brasserie Wedding Photography
We hear from Jo and Dean, who got married at The Barn Brasserie in Great Tey, for this blog. Their wedding was fun to photograph from start to finish, with lots of laughter and emotions.
Jo and Dean, it’s over to you.
Jo and Dean, please tell us a little about yourselves.
After being together for just 18 months, we went on a fantastic holiday to Thailand. After adventures in Bangkok and camping in the rainforest, we went to a beach resort. Towards the end of our experience, we went to the beach bar for cocktails to watch the sunset. Dean then proposed by asking me to marry him by writing it in the sand.
How would you describe the spirit of your day?
Our day was fun and relaxed, perfect for us. We just wanted a no-stress party with some vows at some point and shared them with those we love.
Was there a theme to your wedding?
We had a rustic theme to our wedding to try and keep with the simple and relaxed feel. We also love to spend time outside, and so it seemed fitting.
How did you decide on the venue of your wedding and had your reception?
We spent time looking at various wedding venues. Nowhere, however, had a warm feeling that the Barn had. The staff were excellent, and it fitted exactly with the ideas we had.
What was the best moment(s) of your wedding day?
We genuinely loved every second of it. Our best friends and family surrounded us throughout the entire day.
A funny point for both of us was me getting a fit of giggles in the ceremony as it was a relief to be with Dean and broke the tension.
The speeches were excellent; Dean’s was lively, as was my dads and the best men were just hilarious; there was so much laughter, it was beautiful.
What style was your wedding dress, and who was it by?
My dress was quite ‘boho’ and was by alexia bridal, I had every intention of spending very little on my dress and looking at second hand or importing a dress, but I feel for this one that was completely different from what I thought.
Were there any meanings behind any of the aspects of your wedding?
The table names were based on our adventures together and after our favourite places, such as Thetford; as we cycled there a fair bit, Bath was our first mini-break, plus locations in Thailand that we visited.
Dean, my dad, and my mum made the table centrepieces and cake stand, and I made the decorations to go on top of these.
Did you follow any family wedding traditions? What do you do?
No, we didn’t worry too much about traditions. If anything, we made sure that we did exactly what we wanted it. That meant we didn’t stick to anything that you should do a certain way.
What was the title of the song for your first dance?
Our first dance was thinking aloud by Ed Sheran; knowing it was likely to be quite popular as a wedding song, we wanted a female vocalist if we could. Dean sold a car to a guy who turned out to be just starting up a wedding singing duo with a female vocalist, which we booked. What a bit of luck as they were brilliant!
What tips would you give to other couples when planning their wedding day?
Organise everything you can to ensure that the day isn’t stressful, but don’t worry if things go wrong; it doesn’t matter. And do it exactly how you want to… it’s no one else’s special day.
Below are just a few more of the photographs from Jo and Dean’s big day.
