In January I had the pleasure of photographing Lara and Tyron’s wedding. The wedding ceremony took place at Layer Marney Tower, with the wedding breakfast and evening reception taking place at The Barn Brasserie.

Below, Lara and Tyrone tell us about how they met, gibe details of their day and share tips so that you can have a perfect wedding, along with my Layer Marney Tower wedding photography. Over to you guys…

Please tell us a little about yourselves.
Despite drinking in the same pubs, working in the same hospital and Tyrone working with Lara’s dad, it took a further 10 years and online dating before we actually met! Tyrone proposed while we were having afternoon tea in Bournemouth. Unfortunately, the proposal didn’t go quite to plan due to a completely oblivious waitress who kept interrupting!
How did you decide on the venue of your wedding and reception?
We searched on the internet for a few photo’s of venues, Lara fell in love with our ceremony venue- Layer Marney Tower. The search then started for a close by venue for our reception. The barn offered a beautiful space with ample room- Tyrone had the casting vote on this one!

What was the best moment of your wedding day?
The most memorable moment was when our wedding car broke down on the way from Layer Marney to The Barn! Unfortunately, this was on a particularly busy (and narrow) section of the A120, causing a huge traffic jam. This led to the funniest moment of the day when Lara’s dad started to direct the traffic! It was a particularly bizarre event as the exact same thing happened to Lara’s parents at their wedding in 1975!!

What style was your wedding dress and who was it by?
Lara’s dress was an ivory, satin, fit and flare gown by Maggie Sottero. True to her nature, Lara was incredibly indecisive about selecting a dress, dragging her mum and various bridesmaids on countless trips to a wide variety of bridal shops! It was her parents who helped her see the potential in her final choice- it just required several trips to a very talented seamstress before it was perfect!
What did the groom and ushers wear?
As Tyrone’s favourite colour is black- they wore black herringbone suits with tails, black waistcoats with black shirts and just to break up all the black- they wore silver ties!

Were there any meanings behind any of the aspects of your wedding? i.e Theme, colour, food, seating arrangements, cake, venue?
Our table names were named after the venues of our first 11 dates. Tyrone and Lara are proud to say they bake, iced and decorated their own wedding cake. Cooking is something we both have a passion for so we had always planned to make our own wedding cake.

What flowers did you choose for your bouquets?
As neither of us are particular creative we left the choice of flowers to our gifted friend and florist, Jackie (Flora Wilde). This decision paid off as the flowers were stunning. The bouquets included white roses, calla lillies, avalanche, jasmine, paperwhite narcissus, tulips, hyacinth, gypsophila, veronica & eucalyptus.

What was the title of the song for your first dance? Why did you choose that particular song?
‘Love me like you do’ by Ellie Goulding. It’s a song that reminds each other of the other person.

Where did you go, for your honeymoon? What made you choose that place?
We went to Canada- a few days in Vancouver followed by nearly two weeks skiing in Whistler. The wedding was actually planned around the peak ski season as we always knew we wanted to ski for our honeymoon.

What tips would you give to other couples when planning their wedding day?
Best advice for anyone that is planning their wedding- however long you think those final details will take to complete, double the time allocated and you may find you manage to get everything sorted before your wedding!! Have fun- it’s a great experience and one you’ll learn lots from!
